About

Ruby Martinez is a Mexican American writer of primarily adult and YA fantasy. She stuffs her books full of magic, romance, and mental health rep. Like most authors, she puts her characters through the ringer, but her stories will always have happy endings. Her debut novel, AN EMBROIDERY OF SOULS, released with Knopf BFYR on September 9th. Her next book is scheduled to hit shelves spring 2027.

Ruby works as a therapist by day, and spends most of her evenings as a blanket burrito no matter the temperature outside. She usually writes accompanied by her bird Pip, who contributes by screaming when she needs to focus and tearing off her laptop's keys.

into actual productivity. Luckily, they're some of the best, allowing me

to get no work done.

Pippin

Pippin brings several skills to our team, and is especially gifted at screaming when I need to be working. Other special skills include ripping the keys off my laptop, hissing, and throwing my chapstick on the ground.

Cirrus

If it weren't for Cirrus, I might actually get work done. Luckily, he's a champ at being so cute it's hard to focus, and when that fails, he will often bark at nothing! 11/10 cuteness, would cuddle again.

Winnie (RIP)

Winnie is remembered fondly as a beloved member of our team. Like our other members, she was highly skilled at preventing productivity, and preferred to do so via flapping around her cage and becoming alarmed over nothing. A true professional, she often refused to calm down until I stopped what I was doing to comfort her. She is very missed.
